Creative Careers Day: The Music Industry at the Southbank Centre

Ever wondered how to make a career out of your passion for music? Discover the many hidden jobs that make up the UK’s thriving music scene from booking your artist to the technical set up of a gig and find out how they interweave at this free event for 14 – 18 year olds.

You will get onstage and backstage in four interactive workshops run by our guest panelists and Southbank Centre professionals including:

Production (sound, lighting, stage) Event Management Putting on a gig Press and Marketing

Take part in an interactive panel discussion on ‘Getting into the music industry’ hosted by CDR’s Tony Nwachukwu with guests Marina Blake, (founder of Brainchild Festival), Spider J (producer, musician and tutor at The Roundhouse) and more to be announced.

Meet the organisations! Hear short talks from: The Roundhouse, School Ground Sounds, RawMaterial, Wired4Music, National Theatre and others to find out how you can get involved. Then take your opportunity to ask some questions to our professionals and pick up a free a handout with career ideas and top tips.

Please note…

As an advertising portal and free programme, all participants must agree to a basic set of terms to help us ensure quality placements, proper safeguarding and required monitoring that keeps the service free to our schools and students. You are agreeing to the below by registering.

For school users the participation agreement includes:

  1. You must be a member of staff at a state secondary school or college to apply. To help avoid confusion be sure you are using your school e-mail address.If you are a parent or guardian please contact your child''s teacher to take this forward or contact info@s4snextgen.org directly if any issues.

  2. You understand that S4SNextGen is a connection platform and is not responsible for safeguarding, risk assessments or consent for your students. As such it is your responsibility as the named teacher to ensure that the relevant checks are made to satisfy your schools guidelines. This includes ensuring that neccessary parental consent and suitable safeguarding/health and safety requirements have been met as per your schools standard policy. We are aware that schools have different policies around this, if you have any questions or concerns on this point please contact info@s4snextgen.org.​
  3. Willing to provide feedback. This will help us keep the programme free, growing and improving.

S4SNextGen Employer Registration

Please note…

S4SNextGen is a special service to help leading employers better offer their work experience placements to the state schools and students that need these opportunities the most. As an advertising portal and free programme, all participants must agree to a basic set of terms to help us ensure the quality, safety and continued free access to our content and placements.

For employers the participation agreement includes:

  1. Having in place policies that follow the Data Protection Act requirements and Equal Opportunities Policy.

  2. Ensuring proper checks are made to meet insurance safeguarding and consent requirements of schools and/or external bodies.

  3. As an approved Affiliate Employer or Supporter be willing to be named (incl. logo), provide feedback and share best practice as appropriate to help keep the programme free, growing and improving. This is a part of supporting a diverse network that encourages and helps more employers to take part.

Thank you for your interest in our new programme S4SNextGen. This is a platform to help state school students access work experience placements and opportunities with leading companies from all sectors to get their first taste of the world of work. It especially focuses on students who don’t have access to quality placements through their school, parental or other networks.

Before proceeding to the registration page, please ensure…

  1. I attend a secondary state school or college
  2. I am aged 14-19
  3. I understand I will need to obtain consent from a parent/guardian to submit information about myself to employers
  4. Please note this service is new so we only have placements in certain areas. Please do register and click ''search for opportunities'' to see where placements are available. If we do not have placements in your area we will be in touch when local placements are added.
