Greencoat Capital LLP - Green Skills Insight Day

Greencoat Capital looks after other people’s money by investing it in renewable energy infrastructure such as wind farms and solar farms. In total we look after over £6bn. Our clients are usually large pension funds and international fund managers. Funds we manage own interests in around 65 wind farms in Europe and the US, over 120 solar farms in the UK, three low-carbon greenhouses and two large biomass power stations – one of which burns waste wood and one of which burns straw. These investments provide investors with secure income over the long term and help the UK to meet its climate change commitments as we move towards a low carbon economy and Net Zero by 2050. For more information on what we do, look at our website

We have around 60 people who would usually all work from our offices in London Victoria and Dublin but since March 2020 we have all been working remotely from home. Because we are looking after assets that generate electricity, we have around 17 engineers who know what it takes to keep a wind or solar farm generating. We also have around 15 accountants who know how to keep the score on around 185 companies which own the wind and solar farms. The remainder of us are either making investments in more wind, solar and bioenergy plants or keeping Greencoat running smoothly, obeying all the rules. We have many different nationalities working for us, bringing skills and diversity of thought to the solutions we need to look after our clients’ money.

This year successful candidates will have the opportunity to participate, engage and learn from key Greencoat Capital staff members who intend to:

  • Give you an introduction to what each of the major Greencoat business areas does;
  • Summarise using some key figures Greencoat`s global operation and positive impacts in order to achieve a more sustainable energy future;
  • Summarise some of the renewable technologies and assets we manage on a daily basis;
  • Explain a little about financial markets and the role that fund managers like us play; and
  • Talk through one or two of our investments in depth. One of our newest investments is £120m in two huge greenhouses that will be able to grow 10% of all the tomatoes grown in the country. They contain six times as much glass as The Shard. It will be heated using energy recovered from the warm water in the outflow pipe of two sewage treatment works.
In addition, each of the speakers will share their personal life story and give tips on what skills are needed to build a successful career in the Renewables and Financial Industries.

Placement Notes

Dear Students, Greencoat is excited to welcome you tomorrow and all the session leaders are looking forward to sharing their experiences and insight into the Industry with each of you. In addition to the educational sessions, we have organised a lunch session. It is not mandatory and there is no expectation from our side for you to join. However, if you would like to have a chat about career, hobbies, sport and day-to-day at Greencoat, or anything else that is on your mind, please join us between 12p.m. and 1p.m. for a chat and a luncheon (bring your own!). Same dial-in details apply and there might be more than one break-out room, depending on the number of the students joining. Warmest regards, Katerina On behalf of Greencoat Capital LLP
