Working in media and journalism; how to tell stories for newsbrands
Reach plc is the largest national and regional news publisher in the UK, home to iconic digital sites, magazines and newspapers. From the Mirror, WalesOnline, RSVP and OK!, to our regional titles such as GlasgowLive, the Liverpool Echo, BirminghamLive and the Manchester Evening News, our brands have a long heritage of being trusted sources of the latest news, sport and entertainment. We are passionate about diversifying our workplace - which includes recruiting voices from backgrounds that previously may not have been heard.
It is more important than ever to ensure that our team reflects society and our readers - to do this we want to light sparks in young people who might want to consider a career with us and support them to do so. This is why we’re opening our doors to give young people experience and insight into what it’s like to work at Reach.
This will be a two-day programme giving students an introduction to journalism and how we tell stories, including masterclasses run by some of the leading voices in journalism on;
- The key criteria for telling a good story; participants will join and watch a live editorial conference for one of our leading national newspapers as they discuss the day’s top news stories
- Different ways to tell stories; from social media content to magazine features, data journalism and videos
- How to tell a human story and conduct a stellar interview; students will learn about interview prep and techniques before trying out their skills on a special celeb guest
This is open to students from 14 to 16, with an interest in storytelling; whether that’s through the written word, images, video or animation. The programme will run 10am - 3pm on Tuesday the 26th and Wednesday 27th October, facilitated online by Speakers for Schools.
We would like to encourage English teachers to get involved and attend this event too.
